Motivate Me Monday: Getting Dressed

You did not do anything to achieve your salvation, but you must do something to exhibit it. you must "work out your salvation" which God has worked in you already. Are your speech, your thinking, and your emotions evidence that you are working it out? If your are still the same miserable, grouchy person set on having your own way, then it is a lie to say that God has sanctified you.
-Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

I am to be a new creation. This is how God uses me as I do his will and do it in such a way that it honors him. Not with a grumpy spirit that feels entitled and wants to have her own way, but with joy.

Right now his will for me is to be mom, I know that because he's given me kids. I will glorify him in this role if I do the job with joy, even when tired or grumpy kids get the best of me (and they will). I need to walk through my day with the idea in my head that I am made new in Christ. This means I put away the selfish tendencies, the desire to have things be all about me, and the feelings of entitlement that can creep in on my heart. I get to put on a new self, with God's help, clothed in love and compassion and kindness and gentleness and patience.

There will be things that test me in this area, not the big deal kind of trials but small every day situations and frustrations. I need to consider these pure joy because these things will cause my faith to grow. As my faith grows I will become a new creation, better at displaying his work in me.

Today I will keep that in perspective, as I clothe myself in love, kindness, gentleness and patience. I will ask myself if my words are kind, loving and seasoned with grace. If I am not acting this way on a daily basis then God is not working in me. He wants me to be a new person, not just for the sake of being new but so that he can display his work in me. When his work is displayed in me then everyone in my life (my kids, my husband, neighbors, friends and perfect strangers) will see him. And that's the point.

  1. Very nice post! It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: "Live in such a way that those who know you but don't know God, will come to know God because they know you." Anonymous

May our words, attitudes, and actions reflect Christ accurately!
