One Little Word 2010

A new year has come and with a newfound sense of well, newness. I absolutely love the possibility of this new year; a fresh calendar, a blank page, a fresh start.
For the last few years I have been choosing one word to keep in front of me through out the year. A word that I want to define my year and guide me through it. I’ve always done it with great prayer and thoughtfulness, expecting God to speak to me through that word and show me what he wants me to learn from it.
The idea of this word stems from Ali Edwards. She has some great thoughts about One Little Word on her blog, you can read about it by clicking here.
My word for 2008 was CONNECT.
My word for 2009 was LISTEN.
Looking back I can honestly that God has used these words as a catalyst in my life. They opened a door for me to hear and see him in new and amazing ways. I’m expecting more of this same this year.
My word for 2010 is FOCUS.
Focus is the central point of attention or activity, it is to concentrate on one thing. I’ve found myself a bit distracted lately, or maybe easily distracted. In the midst of schoolwork I’ll notice the pile of dishes and want to turn my attention there. Or I’ll spy one half completed project and leave what I’m doing to attend to that. Usually I only end up with lots of half completed projects and lots of messes along the way. And usually frustrated children. When I get distracted by things that don’t need my immediate attention the more important things get passed by. Mostly those important things are time with the kids and family. In this new year I don’t want that. I want to be more focused, less distracted. More able to sit quietly and focus on God, not on the list of to-do’s for the day.
What’s your word this year?

  2. I do love the word Focus. I need a little of that too. My word is grateful.. not wanting more or wanting to be something else or not opening my eyes to the goodness that is surrounding me. But, I do need a little focus to get that job done, too! Happy New Year to you... :)
