Friday Stuff…..random thoughts on food and kids and flowers

1.  It really wasn’t that cold, but the girls really thought the dogs needed blankets.  And the dogs let them-the pooches around here must have the patience of saints to put up with the kids around here.  Yesterday I found Brinkley, the little guy up top, wearing a crown.
2.  Lately I’m totally struck with the realization that my kids are growing up way to fast, which makes me a sucker for a few more back scratches and “just one more story” at bedtime.  I know that one day they won’t really want me climbing in bed with them to snuggle, or they won’t want to climb in my bed to read at the end of the day.  I love where they are right now, but at the same time I’m time I’m totally nostalgic for the babies they used to be.
3.  When people tell you that you’ll miss the baby days, believe them.  Even if you have three kids under three and all you can see is a pile of diapers and dirty laundry and faces to wash, believe them.  I know at that point in life that sort of comment might have made laugh hard enough to pee in my pants (which is pretty easy by the way, after three kids).  But you know what, they’re were right.  I do miss those baby days and it makes me a bit sad that there will never be another toddler living under this roof.  Because of this I’m always happy to have other toddlers visiting under my roof, just so I can relive the baby days.
4.  Library day is really cool.  I love taking my three kids there, coming out with more books than we can carry and them seeing them lounging all over the place for the rest of the day reading.  Seriously, all three of them-ages 7, 5 and 3, sprawled somewhere with a book.  Which is pretty amazing considering the three year old can’t read yet.
5.  If this book didn’t change my thoughts on eating, then this one certainly has.

I’ll never look at meat the same way again, and I’m totally okay with the fact that the first book encouraged us to eliminate (most) animal products from our diets.  Another book that I loved recently was this one, I thought it was a great perspective on how we eat and what we eat and how to do that better.  Because I really like food, and I really like to eat.

6.  And we are still waiting for spring to show up around here, which means the garden is bare and there are no pretty flowers to look at yet.  This is mainly because it snowed some this week and the other night the temperature dipped into the 20’s.  Really?  I’m so over this season.  It is supposed to be nicer this weekend…..I’m keeping my fingers crossed but not holding my breath.

Happy Weekend everyone!  Go kiss your moms, or your kids, or those women in your life who feel like moms to you.  I’ll be making a choice to enjoy this weekend, whatever the weather does.

  1. I've also been reading Michael Pollan's books and watched Food, Inc. on PBS recently. Very eye-opening. I've been looking for local sources of organic food more.

And yes, I do miss my babies!
