an hour and a half to a new room

Has your home ever been so dirty it seemed like the best thing was to move everything and start fresh?  Mine gets that way  from time to time.  Which I am sure is why I am a compulsive furniture mover, I can’t help it because I inherited this condition from my mom.  One day my back and my bladder will be really angry with me over this, I just know it.  But for now?  I think it’s a great way to cause a little bit of peace to reign in our house.
So when I looked around and saw chaos everywhere I knew I had to get cracking.
There were actually dirty breakfast dishes under that blue pillow.  This picture was taken after lunch, let’s all say it together:  “Ewwwwwww.”
A close inspection of the floors would have revealed a lack of vacuuming and sweeping for ah…about four days.  In some houses this is not a big deal.  Around here we have a shedding dog, like really shedding.  At any given point during the day I can easily pull a hand full or more of dog hair off of him.  I’ll spare you the picture on that……yes, you’re welcome.
Yes, it was bad.  Especially because someone had forgotten to dust since…..well, I honestly don’t remember.  The kids were drawing pictures on the furniture.
I got started at 1:20.
At 2:50, a mere hour and a half later peace had over come the house.
And cleanliness, that was there too.  Look, there were even peacefully playing children.  I think I heard the faint note of angels singing.
Even Ethel got a good dusting.  She is by far one of my favorite accessories, unfortunately due to old age she tends to overheat easily and therefore cannot be put to work.  She just gets to sit and watch the goings on, lucky girl.  I think she’s got a sweet retirement plan.  I sure hope my kids would do the same for me when I’m old and having hot flashes, just let me sit and dust me off every once in a while.  Doesn’t that sound grand?
And so for about half an hour the house was orderly and neat as a pin.  Then the dog came back in and, well, the rest is history.  It was worth it though, totally worth it.
And the bonus is that I can throw my vintage quilt over the back of the couch and see it all the time.  That makes me one happy furniture moving gal.
I finished off the afternoon like this.  Not bad for 90 minutes of work!

  1. I love all your burst of turquoise and Ethel looks right at home...
Your home is fresh and cheery... love it.

  2. Looks great, you have a nice house! I'm surprised the kids let you have the time to do it. I really need to do this to some rooms in my house. Soon hopefully.

  3. the transformation looks great gina!

i use to be a compulsive mover, but since i've lived in our current home (6.5 years), i have attempted to move furniture but it ALWAYS ends up right back where it started.

btw- your home looks cozy. i love ethel.
