improvising….circle granny squares

Today my brain feels like mush.  In my other life, the not as glamorous as a homeschooling/stay at home mom life, I’m a bookkeeper.  I know.   It’s riveting, isn’t it?  Sometimes when I’m working all I can think of is Kevin from The Office saying, “I do the numbers.”  It’s not the smartest moment.
Needless to say, it can be a bit of a brain drain.  And since I’m a bookkeeper for a church I find myself with at least a few days a year filled with mindless spreadsheets and data entry as I get all the donation receipts for the prior year together.  I know, you’re bored already aren’t you?  That was my day today.  It was cold and dreary outside and threating snow, so I worked away.  All. Day. Long.  I stopped only long enough to go downstairs and get a snack and then jump up and down to get the blood flowing back to my extremities.
So tonight I’m happy to move on to things that are more fun, like my newest project.
I found a crochet blanket on Pinterest a while back, it was originally on Ravelry.  It was love at first sight.  Unfortunately the pattern had to purchased.  Due to the Ramsey inspired envelope system the budget is quite squeaky, so I didn’t really want to do that.  So what I love so much about this project was that I was able to come up with my own pattern, inspired from the one I found online.  I’ve never been able to do that.  It took a while, but I’m pretty pleased with the results.  The best part is that I figured out how to join the squares as I go.  If you’ve ever made granny squares then you know how daunting it is to deal with a large pile of grannys to join up.
So this is what I’ve been working on here and there.  It’s quite pleasing to see those rows grow and grow.  And it keeps me awake long enough to actually watch a movie.  I’m thinking it’s time to start watching Downton Abbey, it’s long-you know how those Masterpiece Theater miniseries are.  Long but I hear really good.  I may take the plunge and start the first episode of season one this week.  You know, in all my free time, she says sarcastically.
And that is the scoop around here.  And if you’re interested I’d be happy to write up a post with a pattern, while I’m watching Downton or something :)

  1. Who needs a glamorous life when you can make a darling blanket like that! I'm impressed! I LOVE the colors!
