Memorizing

So this is why. This is why I memorize Scripture. Not so I can check it off the list. Not so I can say how cool I am. I memorize because I know it has the power to change to my life. To cause me to do things differently, to walk out life God's way-not mine.

I've been working on memorizing 1 John 3:18 (NLT)

Dear children, let us not merely say that we love each other, let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.

It's a short one, but still powerful.

And it hit home the other day when youngest child asked for a special sandwich for lunch. Honestly, I was busy. I didn't want to take the time to make a special anything. I was just hoping that I could throw a peanut butter and jelly at her and move on. But then this verse that I've been meditating on popped in my head. And I knew right then that love in action was shaped as a doggie sandwich.

So I made it, and she was happy. And really, it took no time at all. And bonus: my picky eater is much more likely to eat any food that comes in a fun shape.

God's word is powerful and effective. And I'm grateful that has the power to transform.

And in other news, happy Labor Day my friends. I pray the long weekend has been restful and delightful. Some of you just might be back to school tomorrow. I pray it's peaceful and joyful for your families. We have one more week to savor summer, and we plan on doing just that. We will get things in order and do a few fun things and even start ballet for the year, whatever this first week of September holds I trust it will be lovely.
